CORRODED ANTENNA REPLACEMENT FOR SEASIDE HOME ON VICTORIA’S SOUTHWEST COAST

Down by the coast, a TV antenna’s worst enemy is the salt air. This ruthless opponent will often cause poor picture quality, and in some cases even result in an antenna falling off the roof.

David from Jim’s Antennas Horsham was recently called out to a Portland home, where his clients had complained of poor TV reception. Once onsite, he noticed something strange. Up on the roof there wasn’t an antenna in sight! But, after a short look around the perimeter of the property the rusty old thing was found down on the ground.

This came as not surprise to David, as home is was so close to the coast that the spray from the sea would sometimes reach its back door! While being in such close proximity to the ocean would surely provide you with some of the most stunning views, this location will also unfortunately cause to a lot of wear and tear around the home due to, you got it, corrosion.

While in such circumstances, corrosion is inevitable, preventative measure can be implemented to help significantly prevent its spread.

Here at Jim’s Antennas we stock and install a range of aluminium, stainless steel and hot-dipped galvanised antenna products suitable for costal homes.

Both aluminium and stainless steel are known for their resistance to corrosion in environments where metals such as iron, commonly used in other antennas, would quickly deteriorate. Similarly, a hot-dipped galvanised antenna, has been immersed in a bath of molten zinc to create resistance to rusting.

At this home, David decided to install a new stainless steel antenna and mount. While Galvanised steel is a cheaper option (effective for homes further away from the coast), stainless steel is a stronger and more durable metal, and therefore more suitable for withstanding the harsh conditions of this residence.

If you’re living along the coast don’t wait for the corrosion to take over! Give us a call on 131 546 or book a free onsite no obligation quote online, to find out what antenna system would best suit your home.
