What size TV should you buy?

Ever thought about the ultimate distance and position for your seating relative to your TV? Given that the majority of TVs these days are 4k (Ultra HD), you can now enjoy a better and closer experience to your TV than you once used to. Nevertheless, this does not mean you need the largest TV for a better experience. The distance between yourself and your TV will affect the resolution you see on your screen due to angular resolution, the point at which the eye can ‘resolve’ or distinguish individual details in an image.

Below is a table to help you navigate how far you should position your seating in relation to your screen size. The size and distance table is based on the 30° guideline that is suitable for mixed usage, but distances for a variety of sizes at 40° are also available. The table is based on the recommendation from The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers of sitting at a distance where the screen fills up a minimum of 30° of your field of vision for a good experience. It also considers the human visual field, which has a total horizontal field of view of about 200 degrees, although a portion of that is peripheral vision.
