How Storms Can Damage Your Antenna and Impact TV Reception.

Severe storms can wreak havoc on homes and infrastructure, causing widespread damage to properties, power lines, and communications systems. Among the many casualties of these extreme weather events are outdoor antennas, which are particularly vulnerable to high winds, heavy rain, and flying debris. That’s where Jim’s Antennas comes in—we’re the professionals to call if your antenna has been damaged or needs repair.

The Impact of Storms on Antennas

Storms can cause significant issues for your antenna, such as:

  • Physical Damage: Strong winds and falling debris, such as tree branches, can bend or break antenna elements, dislodge antennas from rooftops, or damage their internal components.
  • Signal Disruption: Even if your antenna remains intact, heavy rain and strong winds can interfere with the signal, leading to interruptions in your TV reception.
  • Water Damage: Torrential rain can penetrate older or poorly sealed components, such as masthead amplifiers or cable connections, causing pixelation or no TV reception.

As reported by News.com.au, the recent storm in NSW, caused widespread damage and left thousands of residents without power after winds of up to 135 km/h tore through the region. Such conditions highlight how storms can also disrupt antennas and TV reception.
