Hubbl: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly!

Hubbl is making waves in the TV streaming market, offering an innovative way to
access Free-to-Air (FTA) TV via the internet, thereby removing the need for a
traditional TV antenna. This sleek device integrates broadcast video on demand
(BVOD) channels into its user-friendly TV guide. Despite its appeal, Hubbl comes
with several compromises that potential users should be aware of.

Regional Limitations and Sports Blackouts

One significant limitation involves regional broadcasts and sports content. Users
must enter their postcode to receive the correct state-based feed which is limited to
capital cities in some areas and doesn’t provide regional content. BVOD streams
often lack digital rights for specific sports events, such as cricket or AFL, making an
antenna or additional subscriptions like Kayo Sports necessary for full coverage.
Ch 31 is also not available through Hubbl without a FTA TV Antenna.

SBS is only a National Feed and not state or region based.

Complex Account Setup

To access all BVOD streams and set up the EPG (Electronic Programming Guide),
users must create and sign into individual accounts for each FTA app, which is more
cumbersome compared to the simplicity of using an antenna. This requirement adds
to the setup time and may be seen as a hassle for those looking for a straightforward
viewing experience.

Dependence on Internet Connection

Hubbl’s reliance on a stable and fast internet connection is another limitation. Users
in areas with poor internet infrastructure may experience buffering, lag, or reduced
video quality, making it challenging to enjoy a seamless viewing experience.

Stack and Save Feature

Hubbl’s Stack and Save feature, which allows users to bundle multiple services for a
discount, is a notable advantage. However, it does not include all popular streaming
apps, which could limit its attractiveness to some users.

Additional Costs

While Hubbl itself is an affordable alternative to cable, the necessity of purchasing a
separate TV antenna for certain FTA channels and potentially subscribing to
additional streaming services can add to the overall cost, reducing its cost-saving
appeal.

Hubbl offers a modern and innovative approach to accessing FTA TV and streaming services, combining convenience with a sleek interface. However, its limitations in regional broadcasts, sports content, and reliance on a stable internet connection, along with the complexity of account setups and additional costs, highlight the challenges in achieving a fully streamlined viewing solution. Consumers must weigh these factors to determine if Hubbl meets their needs in the evolving landscape of TV streaming.
