Ever thought about mounting a TV over your fireplace? Fireplaces are often the focal point of the room they are in. So sometimes, installing a TV in the same room can create a cluttered look. A popular and stylish solution to this is mounting your TV above the fireplace. But it’s not that simple, there are a lot of considerations that should be taken into account when completing this type of installation.
Troy from Jim’s Antennas Wollert, recently installed a TV over a fireplace for a family in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
Heat and electronics don’t mix. So when Troy arrived at the family’s home, the first thing he did whether this fireplace was a gas or electrical unit. As the fireplace was electrical and only produces up to 3,000 BTUs per hour, it was a safe to install the TV above it. Gas fireplaces generate more heat than their electric counterparts and can therefore cause significant damage to TV electronics.
The fireplace having a built-in mantle was also a big bonus. As the mantel piece will help to reduce the amount of heat that rises from the fireplace, protecting the TV from damage.
When completing this install Troy was able to conceal all cabling, and install the TV in a position which will provide comfortable viewing for the whole family. If you are thinking about installing a TV above your fireplace, don’t forget to keep ergonomics in mind! This is so you can reduce the impact on your neck, and back and prevent pain, as a result of simply enjoying your new TV.
