Can you use Starlink in bad weather?

There is a global hype surrounding Elon Musk’s Starlink… Some are calling it a ‘godsend’ to remote areas who normally have little to no internet connection. Starlink is the world’s first and largest satellite constellation using a low Earth orbit to deliver broadband internet

This prominent feat of engineering and SpaceX’s ability to turn it into a consumers product is outstanding.

But, one question that is often asked is whether it still works during bad weather. Starlink was designed to withstand rugged weather conditions, although it should be mentioned that a cloudy day may not necessarily affect Starlink, storm clouds could potentially, as they often create heavy rain, which may cause some signal interruptions. Strong winds, however, will not affect your Starlink, as long as the dish is securely mounted.

According to the company’s website it was “designed and rigorously tested to handle a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions, Starlink is proven to withstand extreme cold and heat, sleet, heavy rain, and gale force winds — and it can even melt snow.”

Overall, this is a ‘game changer’ for many people who have always had issues with their internet and felt disconnected from the world. Who were unable to watch movies, to play online games or work from home.

If you have been considering purchasing a Starlink Kit, then now is the time to call on the expert installers, at Jim’s Antennas. Our experts will securely mount the Starlink satellite dish to the roof of the property (or other suitable location) and run cabling that connects the Starlink satellite dish to the router. They will create an interior outlet (if required) near where the new router is located. Our technicians will then help you set up your new internet connection and WiFi network, using the Starlink app. Any additional WiFi products you’ve requested can be installed at the same time.

Only recently, Luke from Jim’s Antennas Shepparton installed a Starlink dish for a customer who had frustratingly slow internet. After assessing the roof, Luke installed the dish in the best location on the roof to avoid any line of sight obstructions and away from the customer’s solar panels. Now the customer is enjoying internet download speeds at around 200mb per second.

You no longer have to put up with a poor internet connection. To find out more about Starlink and to arrange your free onsite, no obligation quote call 131 546 or book here.
