Preparing for Easter Road Trips – Cel-Fi Go for Vehicles

For a lot of Australians there is nothing better than packing up the caravan or car and heading off towards the coast or into the bush for the Easter long-weekend.

But when you’re on the road, getting a good Wi-Fi signal and Phone reception can be challenging.

If travelling around our beautiful country, or even through your state, you may be receiving anywhere from hundreds to thousands of signals from different transmitter towers, in different locations. Not to mention, while on the road, signal strength will inevitably vary. In remote areas, you may only be able to receive a weak signal and sometimes you won’t be able to receive any signal at all.

For some, the inability to make calls can pose safety issues while camping. For others, lack of Wi-Fi or phone reception may pose practical issues, such as the inability to answer work calls while travelling from point A to B or working remotely.

Luckily there is a quick and easy solution: Cel-Fi Go. This device works by receiving a network signal, amplifying it and then re-transmitting the signal within your vehicle. Your phone then picks up the boosted signal from the device to improve call and internet connectivity.

Installing a Cel-Fi GO will give you the option to make calls and access internet from your car when travelling in low-reception areas. Which saves time by removing the need to pull over to the side of the road (once you have finally found a good reception spot) to check messages/emails, load maps/directions or make important phone calls.

At Jim’s Antennas we have seen that after installing Cel-Fi Gos, our customers who were previously only able to access 1 bar of 4g or less when travelling in regional areas are typically able to acquire  substantial boost and improved phone voice-quality in their vehicle, often achieving at least 3 bars of Wi-Fi in low reception areas.

How Does Installation Work?

The Cel-Fi Go consists of 3 components: The Cel-Fi unit, an internal antenna and an external antenna. Typically, the omni-directional external antenna is mounted on the front of the car or caravan, which picks up the strongest signal from the nearest mobile tower and then sends it to the Cel-Fi unit which in turn boosts the signal and transfers it to a hidden antenna which then re-transmits the signal. The Cel-Fi Go unit and internal antenna can be installed behind the rear passenger seats. At Jim’s Antennas, we pride ourselves on completing top-of the quality service, and will make sure that all components of your Cel-Fi set up are installed neatly and concealed where possible.

Why Not Just Hotspot?

If you travel often, or are planning to travel an extended period of time or expect that you will be using your phone or Wi-Fi regularly over the period of time you are away for, Hotspotting will quickly rack up your mobile bill. Not to mention, Cel-Fi Go is able to receive signal in many areas which phones themselves can’t – making these devices great when travelling through or camping in remote areas. Using your phone to hot-spot is a better option you are travelling through areas with a decent signal, and don’t intend to use much data, however, generally speaking Cel-Fi Go is a more affordable and reliable long-term option.
