What is a WiFi Access Point?

Tired of Dead Spots or Weak WiFi Signals in Certain Areas Around the House?

While there are plethora of WiFi solutions available hardwired access points are the most effective solution for extending and strengthening your WiFi connection.

So .. What is a Wifi Access Point?

A Wifi Access Point is a device that is hardwired back to your modem that creates a wireless local area network (WLAN). This then projects a wifi signal through the area that the device is installed in. Wi-Fi Access Points are generally used in low signal / dead spots throughout your home, office or commercial space.

So why is a Wifi access point an effective solution in extending and strengthening your Wi-Fi connection?

The main reason for this is because access points receive fast and reliable connections from the router, and allow the user to get full use of the wireless signal. With other devices such as wireless range extenders half of the connection is lost to the router, resulting in a weaker signal.

Access points are also more convenient as they can be given the same network name. This means you won’t have to go to the trouble of constantly switching networks when moving around the home.

Not to mention Wired Access Points can be powered by PoE (Power over Ethernet). This reduces the amount of cabling required and means that you don’t have to connect your device to a power point – only an ethernet point.

Here at Jim’s antennas our experienced technicians will conceal all cabling, giving a tidy finish. Once professionally installed your new access points will blend into the ceiling and go undetected. We can even install access points with secondary devices such as a mesh unit to extend WiFi into your backyard.

Overall, wired access points are your best bet for improving your home WiFi signal. They provide a faster, stronger and more reliable connection and are also more discrete than other wireless products (which need to be plugged into a power point).

However, if a hardwired solution is not an option for you we’d recommend that you avoid purchasing a range extender, and instead get your hands on a mesh router.
